Senior Clinical Fellow in Medical Simulation at the Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre (in conjunction with the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust)
Available from August 2015 (start date flexible to suit individual requirements)
We are looking to appoint a motivated and driven individual with an interest in Medical Education within the Departments of Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Pain.
The post will be for six months initially with potential for extension subject to satisfactory progress and review.
This newly created post would suit a post FRCA (or equivalent) trainee who wishes to undertake a period of training in Medical Simulation in the joint facility shared between the Royal Marsden and the Royal Brompton.
It would be anticipated that this post would provide senior medical direction into the simulation based teaching within the Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre. The post holder would be expected to work towards delivering a simulation based teaching programme for Core Medical Trainees across both Trusts as well as working in a collaborative way with the Senior Clinical Fellow in Medical Education at The Royal Marsden in the delivery of in-situ based simulation teaching. There are a number of opportunities to work with other education and training projects and on-going course development within both Trusts, such as The Royal Marsden Management Course courses for novice trainees in Critical Care Medicine. There would also be an opportunity to develop simulation based training for trainees without anaesthetic experience in the London Intensive Care Training Programme.
The workload would be flexible to suit the needs of the department and the successful applicant, with experience in in-situ high fidelity simulation teaching to multi-disciplinary groups including (but not limited to) nursing staff, undergraduate medical students, anaesthetic and intensive care trainees, the professions allied to medicine and the department consultant staff.
The post will contribute to the anaesthetic ST 5, 6, 7 rota on at the Chelsea site at The Royal Marsden, currently a full shift, 1 in 7. The remainder of the time will be spent on curriculum development and educational delivery. Adequate time will be allocated for personal development and administration work and the post will be supported by the existing secretarial staff.
The post holder will require the permission of their Training Program Director; previous applicants have been able to count part of the time as an OOPT. This will be dependent upon individual circumstances and cannot be guaranteed.
It would be expected that the post holder works towards a formal qualification in Medical Education and would be supported by the department in doing so.
For informal enquires or a visit to the department please contact Dr Gary Wares or Dr Jo Szram Co-directors of the Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre via Ms Bindiya Dhanak on 0207 811 8552 or
