A Masterclass in Head & Neck Anaesthesia 2020 (Friday 15th May)

  • Date and time Fri 15 May 2020 from 8:00am to 5:00pm
  • Location Royal Society of Medicine
  • Organised by Anaesthesia, Head and Neck Anaesthesia Group

This meeting will focus on specific areas of interest or controversy within head and neck anaesthesia, and address areas of current debate within the field in an interactive manner led and presented by national and international experts.

Using short, focussed lectures, discussions and debates, this event will inform delegates and provide a forum for discussion.

The bragging contest in the afternoon is now a tradition where trainees are invited to present 5-minute vignettes of complex and difficult cases and how they overcame the challenges. Prizes are available!

The annual bragging contest

This is a case presentation competition for trainees and consultants. An abstract of the case should be written and should be no more than 250 words with a maximum of one image (any images used must have consent for the presentation from the patient) and one reference. There must not be any patient identifiable data.

Please include your name, job title and hospital worked at, as well as the email of the presenter with the name and grade of any co-authors.

The deadline for presentation submissions is the 14th April 2020 and the applicants will be informed of the decision by 20th April 2020. All successful applicants must register for the meeting.

Please submit your abstract to catrionaferguson@nhs.net.

Up to 6 case presentations will be chosen by the HANA committee members, for presentation at the meeting. The presentation must be no more than five minutes long. The presenter will be stopped if they overrun by more than 30 seconds. The presentation should be on PowerPoint with a maximum of 5 slides. There will be 2 minutes for questions from the audience.

After all the competitors have presented, they will be asked to wait outside the lecture theatre and the audience will vote. Voting will be taking into account the quality of the presentation and the interest and innovation in the case and its management. There will be prizes for the top three presentations.
