I am Consultant in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia & Critical Care at Barts Heart Centre and Honorary Consultant in Anaesthesia at UCL Hospitals. I am currently the College Tutor for Anaesthetics in St Bartholomew's Hospital.
I grew up in Greece, studied Medicine at the University of Goettingen/Germany and trained in Anaesthesia, Intensive Care, Pain and Emergency Medicine at the University Hospital of Bonn and the Heart Hospital in London (UCL Hospitals). I completed further training and passed the German Board qualifying examinations in Advanced Intensive Care Medicine, prae Hospital Emergency Medicine and Health Informatics.
I was research fellow within a framework funded by the German Research Foundation and was awarded a Doctorate from the University of Goettingen for my work on the steroid influence on the postoperative course and fluid balance in patients undergoing cardiac surgery.
I am Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FRCA), Fellow of the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine (FFICM), Diplomate of the European Society of Anaesthesiology (DESA) and member of several societies of Anaesthesiology. My key interests are in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and critical care but I also undertake a wide range of anaesthesia for all specialties including upper gastrointestinal surgery (oesophagectomies), gynaecology, orthopaedics, maxillofacial surgery, urology and opthalmology.
I have advanced training and expertise in transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE) and I am accredited by the European Society of Cardiology for TOE in adults.
