We are inviting applications from post-FRCA trainees who are interested in undertaking the POM fellowship at the Royal Free Hospital for 6 months, starting in February 2018.
This is an exciting post suitable for trainees looking to gain knowledge, experience and skills in POM. The objective of the Fellowship is to develop a clinician that intends to take on a consultant post with a significant commitment to perioperative medicine. A major focus of the fellowship is the non-clinical skills and knowledge that are expected of post-CCT trainee anaesthetists.
The will incorporate clinical aspects including major surgical & enhanced recovery lists, pre-assessment clinics & CPEX, focussed post-op ward rounds leadership & quality improvement opportunities, and education/teaching depending personal development objectives of the Fellow.
The intention is that the Fellowship is multidisciplinary and will build on existing collaborations with clinicians from other specialties (including surgery, ICU, cardiology, respiratory), together with AHPs and nursing staff.
All fellows will undertake a QI project, supported by a consultant, and be given the opportunity to publish in a peer reviewed journal and/or present their work. In most cases, projects will use existing datasets or have already been established by the time the fellow is in post, meaning that maximum gain can be made from their Fellowship. In return, fellows will be expected to ensure that a project is in place for their successors.
Weekly protected time is built in to the fellow’s job plan to enable them to undertake project and other non-clinical activity.
