Anaesthetic and Academic Meetings

The School organises meetings for trainees at all levels and for Consultants. Please send us details of any other meetings to add here.

Joint UCL/Imperial Academic Meeting

The second meeting between the anaesthesia, pain and critical care departments of UCL and Imperial College London Schools of Anaesthesia will take place on Friday 17th July at 13.00 to 18.00 at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital..

The first meeting attracted researchers and clinicians from outside the two universities, which was marvelous! It increased relations and collaborations between many groups and improved communication between trainees/students to improve academic training. There were world class talks from all the speakers and presenters ranging from bench research into mechanisms of lung injury and HIV induced neuropathic pain, to physiological extremes at the summit of Everest. We had interest from the London Academy of Anaesthesia, the BMA Medical Academic Steering Committee as well as the Academy of Medical Sciences.

The second meeting, we hope, will prove to be as illuminating and our hope is to attract trainees and researchers from all over London and beyond.

We have a very exciting plenary speaker. Professor Nick Franks, Professor of Biophysics and Anaesthesia, will give a talk about his research career in mechanisms of anaesthesia. He has an outstanding record and one, which all trainee researchers hope to aspire to, with multiple high impact discoveries and publications.

Could all Consultants and Principal Investigators who have students that would be interested in presenting an oral or poster presentation please email or Dr Roman Cregg on . Send abstracts and titles and we hope to get back to you as soon as possible.

ICU Masterclass

At last a fruitful collaboration between a group of London ICU`s is paying dividends in the development of a new ICU Masterclass course designed for the Intensivist in training (and trained), FRCA, and Emergency Medicine.

Our ambition is to run 2 courses a year with inviteed speakers, delivering tight scripted lectures designed to answer all the question!

We open with a great programme on the 25th July and think we have got it just right in terms of speakers cost and education.

All we need is your help guys. The group are desparate to get this course to the students who will ultimately want to come.  If its for you, we would love to see you, but even if its not, can you take the trouble to pass it on via e-mail to those you think would be interested.

This way of advertising is cheap, but most of all its effective as we all seem to have a community of friends interested in ICU matters.

From Steve, Manu Kathy and I, a big thank you for reading.  Here is the URL - direct to the course flyer.

Best wishes and maybe see you on the day.
